C&A closes several stores in our country | Economy

The C&A clothing chain closes several city stores in our country. The company doesn’t want to lose exactly how much, writes De Tijd.

Dutch clothing chain C&A is shrinking in Belgium. This year, according to the ACV union, it has already cut about 80 jobs. At the European headquarters in Zaventem, where 400 people worked earlier this year, 32 people were laid off, 10 left voluntarily. Another 40 people will lose their jobs because the chain has closed or is about to close eight stores.

The company claims to be committed to a “modernization strategy”. C&A does not mean how many stores will close and how many jobs will be lost. “We prefer not to cause unrest,” spokeswoman Eva Van Elst said.

“They don’t even tell us how many shops are involved,” says trade unionist Jörgen Meulders (ACV). “The mantra is that they tailor the store’s wallet to the customer’s needs.”

Unions are satisfied with the company’s handling of store closings. If possible, staff can work in nearby C&A stores.
