“C-Mac” director Kim Dae-ho has signed a contract with Gwangdong Freecs. According to the related industry on the 22nd, the contract term is two years. Guangdong Freecs, which is inevitably undergoing a major reconstruction, has handed over the baton to director Kim.
Director Kim Dae-ho worked as a manager for two teams, Griffin and DRX. In 2018, the Griffin team, which was part of the Challengers League, were promoted to the LCK League shortly after taking office as manager and achieved such achievements as winning the regular league in the first promotion season.
Despite these findings, there are many voices of concern about the appointment. Because there was a lot of noise around director Kim. During Griffin’s tenure as manager, a lawsuit was filed against some players for aggression and abusive language in the process of giving feedback to their players.
On March 12, 2020, the prosecution admitted the assault and issued a summary fine of 1 million won. Director Kim, who was dissatisfied with this, pleaded innocent and asked for a formal trial. In October 2020, the e-Sports Fair Committee received a disciplinary review request from Riot Games Korea and conducted an investigation into allegations of verbal abuse and assault. On December 14, the allegation was admitted to be true and manager Kim received a five-month suspension of qualifications.
Even after the suspension of qualifications was lifted, director Kim continued to work as a personal broadcaster, but recently announced his return as a director via his YouTube channel. On the 18th, he signed an agency contract with Loud Corporation and began his full-fledged job search.
Regarding why Guangdong Freecs signed a contract with manager Kim despite these risks, an official from the esports industry said: “I think the most important task is to improve next season’s performance.”
