Bykov wants evidence of the new sanctions under “Magnitsky”

We respect the “Magnitsky” law and have no claims to it. We carefully analyze the signal that is given. We expect from partners and partner services to provide the necessary evidence, because for two years we have practically no part in the management or control of any institutions.

This is what Toma Bikov from GERB-SDS said in the “Panorama” studio on BNT.

“We are open to see what the evidence is. Evidence must be provided, and not only for Mr. Goranov, but for everyone on this list, because this is the job of the judicial system, he stressed. With us, the responsibility is personal, Bikov also stated and added that GERB has no way to react as a party and give a reverse signal, since Vladislav Goranov is neither an MP nor a minister.

He was categorical that the sanctions are a blow to the nuclear mafia and Russophile organizations

We remind you that his statement was in response to a question about the updated list of Bulgarian citizens sanctioned under the “Magnitsky” law, in which he is included and former finance minister Vladislav Goranov.

The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the US Treasury Department imposed sanctions on four more current or former officials from Bulgaria – Rumen Ovcharov, Alexander Hristov Nikolov, Ivan Genov and Nikolay Malinov. The argument is their extensive participation in corrupt activity in Bulgaria.

In addition to the previous sanctions, the State Department imposes visa restrictions on Rumen Ovcharov, Alexander Nikolov, Vladislav Goranov and their family members under Art. 7031, b. “c” of the annual Appropriations Act of the Department of State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs – these individuals and their family members are ineligible for entry into the United States.

Today’s measure is a continuation of OFAC’s previous sanctions against Delyan Peevski, Vasil Bozhkov, Ilko Zhelyazkov and their related companies, which were sanctioned in June 2021.

“We have no problem saying that someone made a mistake, and this is the reason why we have maintained good condition for so long and are the first political force. Only the Bulgarian voter can issue a verdict on GERB”, he was categorical.

The election campaign of GERB will not go under the “Magnitsky” sign, but “under the sign of the challenges that we have not been able to adequately respond to several times,” Bikov said.

Political party GERB did not distinguish itself from Vladislav Goranov in a position sent to the media after his name surfaced from OFAC’s sanctions list.

In the position it is not stated that Vladislav Goranov will be excluded or that someone else will be sought responsibility within the party, and it is stated that the disclosed information is within the powers of the “independent judiciary”.

The name of Vladislav Goranov was involved in the scandal with the non-payment of taxes by the businessman Vasil Bozhkov, who has been living in Dubai for years with charges filed in absentia. Vasil Bozhkov stated that he paid specifically to Vladislav Goranov.

The prosecutor’s office then announced that Vladislav Goranov was interrogated retroactively back in May. He himself, in his capacity as a minister, rejected all the accusations and assured that Vasil Bozhkov did not receive privileged treatment.

Vladislav Goranov was detained by the Ministry of Internal Affairs for 24 hours along with leader Borisov and party PR Sevdalina Arnaudova in March 2022. The charges against him were never made public, and the court declared his detention illegal.

In December 2021, at the border crossing to Serbia, Vladislav Goranov was also caught driving a wanted car, setting up an interesting chase for the police.

Before that, the National Revenue Agency also started an audit of Goranov’s income due to the offices bought by his one-man company “Trilema Consulting” on Tsarigradsko shose Blvd. in Sofia for BGN 750,000, the results of which audit are not publicly available.
