BYD’s Yangwang U6 Aims to Become the World’s Most Aerodynamic Production Electric Car, Outshining Lucid Air

Chinese automaker BYD is working on a new model, the Yangwang U6, with the goal of making it the world’s most aerodynamic production electric car. This is according to the posts on the Chinese social communication platform Weibo, which are referred to by the media writing about the Chinese electric car industry CarNewsChina.

Currently, the honor of the world’s most aerodynamic serial electric car belongs to Lucid Air – its aerodynamic drag coefficient is Cd 0.197, but BYD plans to beat it. A lower drag coefficient is a very good feature in the context of an electric car, as it provides lower consumption and a longer range per charge.

News from China indicates that the Yangwang U6 has a drag coefficient of 0.195. The difference is very small, but it’s better than the Lucid Air. As for this Yangwang brand specifically, it is BYD’s luxury brand that was created recently. The U6 is expected to be the next model unveiled. The Chinese publication mentions the Tesla Model S Plaid as one of the competitors of this new model and suggests that BYD will equip this model with a four electric motor system developing 1,180 horsepower. It is already used in the Yangwang U8 car. The U9 supercar, which can be seen in the title picture, was also created under this brand. The projected starting price for the new model is around 110 thousand US dollars.
