BYD YangWang Electric Premium Sedan: Chinese Competition for European Market

Apparently, another Chinese electric car is heading to Europe, this time it wants to compete with the stars of the segment.

China’s new BYD YangWang electric premium sedan has been heavily revealed for the first time thanks to patent images released by the European Patent Office, according to CarNewsChina. It can therefore be assumed that this model will also head to the old continent, where it will probably challenge the established competition.

To recall, YangWang is BYD’s new all-electric premium brand launched earlier this year. In April, the brand presented its first model, the electric sedan U8, which recently entered pre-sale in China with a very bold price tag – starting at 3.4 million crowns.

The second model of the YangWang brand will be the sports electric car U9, which should be followed by a premium electric sedan. The name of the sedan has not yet been published, but considering the names used so far, the designation U7 is most likely to be offered. However, it is definitely not the official name.

The patent images show a design reminiscent of other BYD sedans. In particular, the shapes of the hood, roof line and side lines may resemble BYD Seal series cars. However, the premium sedan will offer specific headlights with a distinctive light signature, large intake holes in the front bumper or recessed door handles.

A bubble on the roof suggests the presence of LiDAR sensors, thanks to which the sedan could offer advanced assisted or autonomous driving capabilities. In the rear part of the body there should be an active spoiler, supplemented by an aggressive diffuser.

According to speculations pointed out by colleagues from CarNewsChina, the novelty should offer a powertrain taken from the U8 and U9 models. Thanks to four electric motors, the sedan could offer a combined output of around 1,180 horsepower. The car should compete on the market with models such as Mercedes-Benz EQS or BMW i7, which corresponds to the expected price, starting from 2.5 million crowns.
