BYD Unveils the Yuan Up Electric Crossover for $13,400 – Taking the Budget Class Segment by Storm

The Chinese electric car manufacturer BYD has come up with its latest product – the Yuan Up electric crossover, which will cost about 13,400 US dollars. It is predicted that with this model the manufacturer intends to strengthen its position in the local Chinese budget class segment, while we in Europe can only dream of a car at such a price. It is not even the cheapest car in their offer – the Seagull model costs 11 thousand dollars.

As for the car itself, it is a compact crossover that is 4.31 meters long, 1.83 meters wide and has an adequate 2.62 meter wheelbase. The car is equipped with BYD developed “Blade” batteries that use LFP cell chemistry. So what can we get for our 13,400 dollars – a 32kWh battery capable of 301 kilometers in the Chinese test cycle. We remember that this is a very optimistic test cycle and in reality it will be significantly less, but within city limits (including large Chinese cities) it will be quite enough. Acceleration to 100 km/h takes a moderate 12 seconds.

For a reasonably higher price, we get better equipped versions with larger batteries – we can get a 45.1kWh capacity battery that will provide a range of 400 kilometers, while the 174-horsepower electric motor (290Nm) will run up to 100km/h in 7.9 seconds. Price from 15,200 to 16,600 dollars, depending on the level of equipment.

The car is aimed at younger buyers. What about youth unemployment in China? Anyway, that’s the goal and the manufacturer plans to offer favorable terms as well, including a 24-month interest-free leasing period. BYD plans to increase its market share with this model as the so-called price war continues in China’s highly saturated electric car market.
