BYD Unveils $233,450 Electric Supercar Competing with Ferrari and Lamborghini – Largest Seller of Electric Cars

BYD debuted its most expensive car on Sunday, a high-performance all-electric supercar worth 1.68 million yuan (US$233,450) that competes with the fuel consumption options offered by competitors such as Ferrari and Lamborghini.

The company said in an event broadcast live in Shanghai: “The Yangwang Yu9 will initially be for the Chinese market.” She said: “The car can reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.36 seconds, and reaches a top speed of 309.19 km/h.”

The largest seller of electric cars

BYD has become the largest seller of electric cars in the world, overtaking Tesla in the last quarter of 2023. While it is known for manufacturing affordable electric cars, the company markets its luxury models under the “Yang Wang” and “Fang Qing Pao” brands. ».

With a post-Lunar New Year price war looming in China, the Shenzhen-based giant is betting that there is still a market for high-end products that offer better profit margins.

Other expensive electric cars under the Yangwang brand are scheduled to be launched later this year in China, including a luxury sedan costing about 1 million yuan.

Yanguang began delivering cars in late November. It has one production model so far, a luxury sports car known as the U8 that costs 1.1 million yuan. The company delivered 3,653 units until the end of January. (Bloomberg)
