BYD Car Company: Leading the Charge in the Global Electric Vehicle Market

The BYD car company celebrated an interesting milestone last week when it produced its five millionth car with an electrified drive. The Chinese brand, which was only established in 2003, refers to this category of cars as New Energy Vehicles (NEV) and includes plug-in hybrids and battery electric cars.

BYD is also currently the most successful brand on the domestic market. However, he is not going to be satisfied with that, he also wants to succeed abroad. There would be nothing so special about that, there are more ambitious car companies with global intentions in China. But it is interesting that the BYD brand called on its domestic competitors to unite. It is said that by working together, Chinese automakers can crush “old legends” – that is, traditional brands from Europe and the USA.

“I believe the time has come for Chinese brands,” said BYD Auto founder and chief Wang Chuanfu. “China’s 1.4 billion citizens would like to see the Chinese automaker become a global brand,” he added.

BYD is the largest manufacturer of electrified cars in the world, but sells primarily on the domestic market. However, the Atto 3 electric car has the potential to conquer the European market.

On the occasion of the celebration of five million manufactured electrified vehicles, Wang Chuanfu prepared a performance, which also included a video dedicated to the origins of 12 of the most important Chinese car companies. The film was a call for unity and cooperation. “Our stories are different, but they share the same direction. There is no difference between you and us,” said the video, which ended with a call for Chinese automakers to jointly break old legends and become new world-class brands. The message was complemented by a simple slogan: “Chinese cars”.

Representatives of some of the most important Chinese manufacturers approached have already responded to the call. And mostly positively. However, Great Wall said that Chinese automakers should accept the “reality of competition.”

The small city electric car BYD Seagull can travel up to 400 km on a single charge, while it costs only 250,000 in China. This is exactly what the European market needs and no one but the Chinese can offer it…

However the Chinese brands move forward, it’s highly likely that we’ll be seeing their cars more regularly in the near future. This is evidenced, for example, by their greater interest in European car shows.

Companies such as BYD, MG, Xpeng and Leapmotor will present themselves at the September IAA Mobility trade fair in Munich, Germany. Compared to the year 2021, almost twice as many from China will show up in Munich.
