BYD and BMW plan to make cars in Hungary

In Hungary, two car makers – the Chinese BYD and German BMW – are building factories, reports autonews.

Production is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2025.

Hungary has become a key trade and investment partner for China as several other EU countries seek to reduce their dependence on the world’s second largest economy.

German car factories are already operating in the country.

The Chinese company CATL is building a €7.3 billion battery production plant in Debrecen (eastern Hungary).

BMW is building its car plant next to this facility.

And Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD announced last year that its first European plant was built in Szeged (in the south of the country).
