Apple is a big name among phone manufacturers. However, he was overtaken by a Chinese company.
The Chinese from Xiaomi managed to tick a stage victory in front of the Americans from Apple. Canalys data show that in the second quarter of this year (April-June), the manufacturer managed to overtake the Americans and move up to second place in the world’s top phone manufacturers.
Samsung remains the leader.
The Americans from Apple, surpassed by Xiaomi
According to analysts at Canalys, the South Korean group Samsung has maintained its position as the world leader with a share of 19% of global smartphone deliveries, but Xiaomi has overtaken Apple for the first time with a market share of 17%, compared to 14% in the case of the American manufacturer.
The following places are owned by the Vivo and Oppo brands.
Xiaomi’s advance came as a result of a significant increase (83%) in the number of phones delivered compared to the previous three months, while Apple phone deliveries saw only a modest increase of 1%.
“Xiaomi is rapidly expanding its business abroad. For example, its deliveries have increased by more than 300% in Latin America, by 150% in Africa and by 50% in Western Europe, ”said Canalys Research Director Ben Stanton.
What happens in 2021
Xiaomi has made spectacular progress when it comes to the number of phones sold but the price structure of the Chinese manufacturer is still oriented towards the mass market, given that the average selling price of Xiaomi phones is 40% to 75% lower. compared to Samsung and Apple respectively.
Under these conditions, a major priority for Xiaomi this year will be to increase sales of high-end phones.
According to research firm IDC (International Data Corporation), the global smartphone market is expected to reach its highest level since 2015. IDC estimates that a total of 1.38 billion smartphones will be delivered in 2021, in increase by 7.7% compared to 2020, a new advance of 3.8% being forecast for 2022.
Strong global smartphone demand is one of the reasons Samsung recently reported a 53% increase in profit in the second quarter of this year.
Things could change, however, at the end of the year, when the line is drawn. That balance will count and, let’s not forget, Apple launches come only in the fall.
