Compartamos Banco, a financial institution that mainly serves the popular sector, does not perceive “that there is going to be a very important brake or economic slowdown” towards the end of the year; On the contrary, activity and demand for more financing will increase, said its general director, Enrique Majós.
“In recent years economic activity has been good. At this moment it is not perceived that there is going to be a brake or a very important economic slowdown. “We are facing a change of six-year terms, that generates changes, adjustments, we perceive uncertainty, but for the activities of our clients, which are services and basic products, which have greater resilience to all macroeconomic effects, we will continue with growth,” he indicated. Majos.
In a video conference, to present the financial results corresponding to the third quarter of 2024, he considered that by the end of the year, Compartamos Banco’s credit portfolio will have a growth of between 18 and 20 percent, a fact that shows that the economic situation of the popular sector he is fine.
Regarding the change of government, Majós explained, the perspective is that Claudia Sheinbaum’s administration “is very socially oriented, it has not changed much compared to the previous government.”
“We see that it is a government that seeks to ensure that economic activity, mainly in the segments that we serve, remains well and that has been the case; we see things very well in that sense,” he expressed.
Financial results
At the end of the third quarter of the year, Compartamos Banco reported that the balance of the financing portfolio stood at 48,565 million pesos, which represented an increase of 27.3 percent when compared to the 38,154 million reported at the close. from the same period, but from last year.
The financial entity also reported a profit between July and September of 1,388 million pesos, an amount 68.2 percent higher than the 825 million reported in the third quarter of last year.
In this way, in the accumulated period from January to September, Compartamos Banco’s profits reached 3,546 million pesos, a figure 40.5 percent higher than the 2,524 million reported in the same period of 2023.
In turn, the default rate with respect to the total financing portfolio stood at 3.36 percent, which represented an increase of 0.71 percentage points compared to the 2.65 percent reported at the end of the third quarter of the previous year.
In this sense, Majós emphasized that the default levels are good if the type of population that the bank serves is considered, which is why at this time they have no concerns about this issue.
