“By minus” and “We will not vote.” Sawiris responds to observers’ questions about the elections

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – As Egypt prepares for the presidential elections, billionaire Egyptian businessman Naguib Sawiris said Thursday that he will not vote for anyone.

Sawiris said, through his account on the “X” platform (formerly Twitter), in colloquial language: “We will not vote,” in response to a request from one of his followers to answer “with all frankness and transparency” about who will vote for him in the elections.

Another follower called on Sawiris to run for the presidency, saying colloquially: “Don’t run for yourself, engineer, but you promised us that you won’t have parties and the sights we see, and our vote is with you as an economic mentality.” Sawiris responded with a laughing expression: “With a minus… except for parties.”

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s victory in a new term is considered guaranteed, according to observers, in light of the weak competition, as three other candidates are running in the race: the head of the Egyptian Democratic Party, Farid Zahran, the head of the Justice Party, Abdel-Sanad Yamama, and the head of the Republican People’s Party, Hazem Omar.

Egyptians abroad vote on the presidential elections in the first 3 days of December, and they are held at home during the 10th, 11th and 12th days of the same month.
