By handing over old mobile phones, you can participate in the gold plating of “Gold Microphones”.

Latvian Music Recording of the Year Award “Zelta mikrofons’23” in cooperation with partners “Zaļā josta” and “Elvi” invites campaign “Old telephone or golden microphone?”, encouraging to recycle old mobile phones to symbolically get the gold found in telephones for the gilding of figurines.

Until February 1, 2023, everyone can leave their phones in donation boxes located in “Elvi” stores throughout Latvia.

Promotions “Old telephone or golden microphone?” at the fore is the cell phone, which is one of the main devices for listening to music today, but it is aging relatively quickly. “Each of us keeps at least one worn-out electrical appliance in our homes, which has been waiting for its rebirth for years, but we don’t even experience it, as it becomes technologically and morally obsolete: it is a mobile phone. On average, a cell phone contains 0.034 grams of gold. Thus, to obtain the amount of recycled gold necessary to gild a “Golden Microphone” statuette, it would be enough to recycle at least one hundred mobile phones. This kind of investment and support in the gilding of figurines is a great way to clearly see the benefits of separate collection and real use of secondary raw materials,” says Laima Kubliņa, Marketing Manager of the Green Belt organization.

And one more interesting aspect: anyone who wants to win invitations to the “Zelta mikrofons’23” award ceremony or win valuable prizes from “Zalashi josta” and “Elvi” is invited to inform others of their good work by posting a photo taken at the moment of the donation hashtag #zalaismikrofons in your social profiles.

The annual Latvian music recording award “Zelta mikrofons’23” will take place on February 18, 2023 at the International Exhibition Center in Ķīpsala, in the presence of the public.
