By-elections: Fronts in preparation; Names as soon as announced

Thiruvananthapuram / Kochi ∙ The Congress election committee will meet today to discuss the candidates for the Palakkad and Chelakkara by-elections. The state leadership directed MP VK Srikanthan, Shafi Parampil and DCC President A. Thankappan to consider Palakkad and TN Prathapan, Jose Vallur, MP Vincent and Anil Akkara from Thrissur to reach Thiruvananthapuram today. The committee will meet after receiving comments from the main leaders of the area.

Efforts are being made to prepare a short list of candidates in each constituency and present it to the Commander-in-Chief today. A resolution will also be passed asking the Commander-in-Chief to nominate the candidate. Sources in the party said that the decision to continue with the recent practice of presenting candidates in both constituencies as soon as the elections are announced is ongoing.

Palakkat Youth Congress state president Rahul Mangkoot and Chelakkarail Ramya Haridas were the first to be discussed, but the names of Palakkat KPCC VT Balram and KPCC Social Media Convener Dr. P. Sarin. A group is also demanding that K. Muralidaran be brought to Palakkad.

District Panchayat President K. Binumol is leading in CPM. The district committee has also given the names of DYFI state president V. Wasif and district committee member TK Naushad to the state committee. CPM State Secretary MV Govindan said that the left candidates for the by-elections have been decided and they will be notified as soon as the elections are announced.

State General Secretary C. Krishnakumar came first in BJP’s survey of Palakkad candidate; Shobha Surendran and the second. The possibility of state president K. Surendran overtaking both of them in the party’s promising constituency cannot be ruled out.

The Congress leadership believes that Ramya, who lost in the Lok Sabha elections, should be given one more chance in Chelakkara. The name of KPCC General Secretary and wife of VK Srikanthan MP KA Tulasi is being considered. CPM has decided to launch U. Pradeep in Chelakkara. BJP is considering Thiruvilwamala panchayat member K. Balakrishnan.

Palakkad MP VK Sreekanthan requested the KPCC leadership to allow him to vacate the post of DCC president as he has completed the task assigned to him in Thrissur. Sreekanthan was appointed in the context of the explosions within the party in Thrissur after the defeat in the Lok Sabha elections. Sreekanthan informed the leadership that the bottom-up reorganization had been completed and the discord and discord among the leaders had been resolved.

The KPCC meeting held in Kochi decided to implement the reorganization within 10 days in the unfinished block committees in the state.
