The first production of the Daikin AC plant is expected to take place in December 2024. In the first year, the factory will produce around 500,000 AC units.

Yoshihiro Mineno, Senior Executive Officer of Daikin Industries Limited, said the construction of this plant is intended to strengthen Daikin’s position as a leader in the air conditioning market in Indonesia. Currently, Daikin controls 35.5% of the air conditioning market share in the country. After the factory is operational, Daikin’s market share has the potential to rise to a level of 50%.

Daikin also expects its air conditioners to have a house content level (TKDN) of more than 40%.

Daikin will prioritize sales of air conditioners from factories for the domestic market. This is because the penetration of AC in Indonesia is still relatively low, which is only 10%. The potential demand for small capacity air conditioners for households in Indonesia is also very large.

This is in line with the large population and condition of Indonesia which has a tropical climate with quite warm temperatures during the day.

“We manufacture air conditioners tailored to the needs of the Indonesian people and the prices are competitive,” added Yoshihiro.

However, Daikin is still evaluating the export potential of AC products. Daikin’s new factory will also allow the company to export its main air conditioners to Southeast Asia.
