In Berlin, too, numerous shops have reopened since Tuesday (March 9, 2021) after being closed for months – however, customers must make an appointment online or by phone beforehand to make purchases.

In addition, only one customer is allowed per 40 square meters. The federal and state governments agreed on this option last week. The corresponding ordinance has been in force in Berlin since Sunday. Because of the bank holiday on Monday, the Berlin retail trade was only able to move in on Tuesday. The prerequisite for opening the appointment is a seven-day incidence value of less than 100. This means that no more than 100 people per 100,000 inhabitants may have been newly infected with the corona virus within the past seven days. In the capital, this value was 70.4 on Monday – but the trend is rising.

Some appointments can be made on site
Many retailers can now book online shopping appointments of different lengths. The Kaufhaus des Westens (KaDeWe) in Charlottenburg, for example, offers one- and two-hour time slots. At the outdoor outfitter Camp4 in Friedrichshain, visits of 15 minutes to an hour can be arranged online. The new regulation gives retailers some leeway. Some dealers also offered on-site appointments, such as the Karstadt branch in Wedding. There, the shopping tour could theoretically be extended at a service counter even after the time window had expired.
