In order to actualize the need for the Museum of Contemporary Art and introduce the public to an important segment of the history of Latvian contemporary art, an art park called “Mobile Museum. Next season ”, the representatives of the Latvian Center for Contemporary Art (LLMC) informed.
Artists Aigars Bikše, Ēriks Božis, Evelīna Deičmane-Vida, Ivars Drulle, Reinis and Krista Dzudzilo, Dace Džeriņa, Andris Eglītis, Katrīna Neiburga, Jānis Noviks, Kirils Panteļejevs, Monika Pormale, Artūrs Pormale, Artūrs It will feature works created in various art projects over the past 30 years.
“These art objects” without a home “would have deserved to be in the collection of the Latvian Museum of Contemporary Art, but here, detached from their original context and exhibited together, they form a new polyphonic message of Latvian art history development and actualize the need for a contemporary art museum,” LLMC said.
When creating this project, I recall the exhibition I created in 2007 in the exhibition space of the then Latvian Center for Contemporary Art – in the hall of the Andrejsala building workshop and in the project room “Ēdnīca”. The exhibition entitled “Mobile Museum” called attention to the idea of the Museum of Contemporary Art, which was updated at that time – the sketch of the museum was created by the famous architect Rems Kolhāss, envisaging to transform the historic Andrejsala Thermal Power Plant building into a museum. At that time, LLMC was invited to think not only about the museum building, but also about the creation of the museum collection and the vision of the planned museum, “Solvita Krese, its curator and LLMC director, outlined the context.
She pointed out: “Aware of today’s situation, one cannot ignore a number of similarities – we create an art exhibition in a degraded post-industrial city area and still ask the same questions. When will there be a museum of contemporary art in Latvia? What will it be like?
This museum of contemporary art, which has been awaited for decades, has already become an imaginary image, such as a recognizable hero of a series, which from time to time slips into the frame of Latvia’s cultural policy.
Therefore, the exposition planned for this summer in the territory of the former textile factory “Bolshevich” is also given the name “Mobile Museum. Next season. “
The topic will also be updated through a public program. Art Park “Mobile Museum. Next season ”and the public programs of the festival“ Survival Kit ”this year combine a common name and thematic framework“ Fictitious Museum ”, thus creating an illusory museum structure consisting of future and past museum departments. The issues under the responsibility of the Museum Department of the Future will be addressed in discussions and events in six series by the events of the art park. The platform of the museum department of the past will be the public program of the festival “Survival Kit 12”, which includes discussions, artist evenings, procedural art and educational program activities. The participation of art journals is also envisaged. The extent to which the measures of the public program will be implemented will be determined by the epidemiological situation.
The large-scale art exhibition outdoors – in a museum without walls, can be visited individually, following a digitally prepared travel guide and audio guide.
The art park will be available to visitors free of charge and will be open three days a week – on Thursdays and Fridays from 14:00 to 20:00, and on Saturdays from 12:00 to 20:00.
