The World Triathlon Association and the Professional Triathletes Organization (PTO) have extended their collaboration by twelve years and want to advance the sport of triathlon in the long term. The partnership includes “the sole and exclusive official long-distance triathlon world championship tour, anti-doping measures, safeguards and rights management cooperation, including sponsorship and broadcasting,” according to a press release. In this way, the organizations are expanding their previous collaboration.
“After three amazing Olympic triathlon races in Paris and just before the WTCS finals in Torremolinos and the T100 finals in Dubai, we believe it is both our responsibility and the PTO’s responsibility to continue the good work we have already started double. “The great attention our sport is enjoying at the moment should be used as a catalyst to develop deeper engagement with the sport’s dedicated fans,” says Marisol Casado, President of World Triathlon. “We will see athletes move from the World Triathlon Championship Series to the T100 Tour in the near future. And we see that more and more fans are getting involved in both worlds and enjoying the shorter or longer distances equally. This offers excellent opportunities for all of us. We want to further expand this collaboration and take it to a new level.” One of the world association’s goals is to bring the sport closer to a broad audience.
Drive long-term development
The PTO also looks positively to the future. We have had a positive relationship with World Triathlon for several years, explains PTO CEO Sam Renouf. “By working closely together to form and subsequently launch the new T100 Triathlon World Tour – which has quickly become the pinnacle of long-distance racing – one of the by-products has been the discussion and identification of further ways in which we can develop the sport.” Both sides would now have the opportunity to invest together in the long-term development of the sport.
As part of the T100 Triathlon World Series, the PTO and the world association are already cooperating on a racing series this year. After five races over the 100-kilometer distance, the Australian Ashleigh Gentle and Magnus Ditlev from Denmark lead the ranking. However, two races are still outstanding. The action will take place in Las Vegas on October 19th, and the grand finale will take place in Dubai on November 16th and 17th.
