By 2026, Volvo plans to transform all of its basic models into electric cars

The Swedish car manufacturer Volvo plans to transform all of its current basic models by 2026, replacing internal combustion engines with electric drives. Such information to the news agency Reuters revealed by several sources close to Volvo. This applies to the S60 and S90 sedans, as well as the current crossovers – the XC40 and XC90 already have electric alternatives, namely the XC40 Recharge and the recently introduced EX90. The new Volvo electric flagship EX90 will arrive at customers only at the end of this year and the beginning of next year.

Sources close to the automaker indicate that Volvo also has an electric minivan planned, but for now it is planned for the Asian market, where Volvo is trying to capture more market share. In total, Volvo will launch at least six electric models over the next few years as part of Volvo’s broader plan to become an all-electric car maker by 2030.

It is especially emphasized that these changes in Volvo’s offer are related to the fact that the manufacturer wants to focus more on the Asian market and current trends there. The development of Volvo sedans is said to have moved to the new technology center in Shanghai, where the staff has recently been significantly expanded.
