Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto faced Takuro Hoki/Yugo Kobayashi at Nimibutr Arena, Bangkok on Thursday (8/12/2022) afternoon WIB. This is the second game in each doubles, with both winning their first game.
Fajar/Rian started game one straight down 0-5. But four lucky points allowed them to close the gap and points have been tight ever since.
From a position behind 5-7, Fajar/Rian won four points to turn the position around to 9-7. Hoki/Kobayashi tried to halt the momentum and tie the score at 10-10. However, Fajar/Rian managed to close out the winning halftime 11-10.
Fajar/Rian kept the momentum going. Hoki/Kobayashi weren’t silent and trailing 13-16, they won three points to even the score.
Fajar/Rian kept their cool to hold off Hoki/Kobayashi. Then from a 17-17 score, they opened the gap to 20-17, then won the game 21-18.
Fajar/Rian immediately scored three points in the second game and managed to keep the lead, until Hoki/Kobayashi tied the score at 7-7. Both sides stick with each other until the score is 10-10.
The Indonesian doubles led at halftime and managed to open the distance 13-10. Hoki/Kobayashi managed to narrow the difference to one point, but Fajar/Rian managed to win 21-15.
Fajar/Rian temporarily lead the 2022 BWF World Tour Finals Group A men’s doubles standings with two points, the result of two victories. They are ahead of Ong Yew Sin/Teo Ee Yi and Takuro Hoki/Yugo Kobayashi with one point for each doubles.
Meanwhile, Choi Sul-gyu was eliminated as he has yet to score points from two games.
Earlier, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting also secured his second BWF World Tour Finals win, defeating Chou Tien-chen. This result increased Anthony’s chances of qualifying for the semi-finals.
