There is no turning back: Sunday afternoon, the new crew of ‘Over the ocean’ set sail in Spain. The aim is to arrive in one piece at the other end of the Atlantic Ocean within 18 days.

With twelve in total, they are the BV fleet of Play4. In addition to the well-known heads of service – Ella Leyers (33), Annelien Coorevits (34), James Cooke (37), Jonas Geirnaert (39), Elodie Ouédraogo (40) and Gert Verheyen (51) – a four-person film crew is also present. Just like last year, captain Piet Smet and his first mate Willem Stellamans are at the helm.

When they left in Gran Canaria, Spain, the participants said goodbye to their loved ones who had traveled with them. Ouedraogo was waved goodbye by her husband Jeroom and their son Remus, Coorevits and Leyers by their sisters and Cooke by his husband Dorian. Geirnaert provided the comic relief when leaving. He takes beads, mirrors and other gifts with him, “because I assume we are going to discover a new continent. And I want to say this at home: the code of all my bank cards is 5499.”
The final destination is Saint Lucia, a Caribbean island group. What is special is that this time the trip is anything but non-committal: the BVs participate in the Atlantic Rally For Cruisers, a sailing competition that has been organized since 1986. It is the largest race of its kind and has around 250 participants each year. We will see how the well-known Flemish are doing on Play4 in the course of next year.
