Marco Reus will now be lacing up his boots for LA Galaxy. There, the BVB legend will meet a former Schalke player.

Dortmund/Los Angeles – After leaving Borussia Dortmund, Marco Reus is moving on to the USA. The 35-year-old won’t have to reinvent himself there, but life and football in the States are not comparable to that in Germany.

In the Bundesliga, Reus was seen as an ageing star who enjoyed a high reputation but was nearing the end of his career. In the USA, however, the Dortmund native was celebrated frenetically and was recently given a two-and-a-half-year contract by LA Galaxy.

His name is definitely the most colorful in the team. Nevertheless, the attacker has to take a back seat. And the captain is, of all people, a former FC Schalke 04 player: Maya Yoshida (35).

BVB legend Marco Reus now plays in the same league as Lionel Messi

The Japanese player, who was dropped from the second division club and BVB rival, makes it clear that the quality in Major League Soccer (MLS) is only average – even if the individual class has increased in recent years with the arrival of stars such as Reus, Luis Suarez and, above all, Lionel Messi.

At LA Galaxy, Reus will meet another face that is well-known in Germany: Dejan Joveljic. The striker once played for Eintracht Frankfurt. This season, he has already collected 17 points in 21 appearances. Joveljic has therefore played a significant role in the US team’s success this year.

Reus’ new club leads the MLS Western Conference with 49 points after 26 matchdays. Although city rivals Los Angeles FC can still overtake them in the table with two games left, LA Galaxy are well on their way to the play-offs.

The MLS is divided into two groups. The seven best teams in each group qualify for a knockout round to determine the league title. The first-place team, however, only advances to the second play-off round.

Reus would definitely be happy about the championship title. His dream with BVB remained unfulfilled. For now, however, he is eagerly awaiting his first appearance (more about former BVB stars at RUHR24).
