BVB defender points to Van Bommel after a duel with Ajax: ‘Was written off’

Marin Pongracic pulls a long nose at Mark van Bommel after his substitute Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League-duel with Ajax on Wednesday evening. The 24-year-old Croat came to VfL Wolfsburg not in the plans of the Dutch trainer.

The Wolves paid nine million euros for Pongracic in January 2020. Last summer, however, the central defender received bad news from Van Bommel. “I was written off in Wolfsburg, they didn’t see it in me,” he tells the Twitch-Stream Wing pliers. “I can’t say too much because I’m still under contract there.”

Yet Pongracic does not hold back. “They wanted me to make room for others. Horrible, at eleven against eleven in training I did not participate”, he looks back. “I wanted to jump out of my skin, go to Van Bommel and tackle him. But then you have to sit down with him and start talking like a politician.”

Pongracic quickly came in against Ajax on Wednesday after the red card for Mats Hummels. The mandekker hopes to be able to stay at Dortmund. The black and yellow can hire him for nine million euros, he says. “I am rented out for one year, with an option to buy. If I do it right, I hope they will lift it.”

According to Kicker Pongracic fell out of favor with Wolfsburg because of his lack of discipline. That was already the case before the arrival of Van Bommel.
