BVB has a difficult task ahead of them in their Bundesliga opener against Eintracht Frankfurt. However, two stars are not allowed to take part in the match.
Nuri Şahin cannot field Salih Özcan and Youssoufa Moukoko in BVB’s Bundesliga opener. The new Borussia coach took the two stars, who the club will probably sell before the transfer deadline, out of the squad, as he did in the cup match against Phönix Lübeck.
Moukoko is now only the fifth choice in BVB’s attack behind new signings Serhou Guirassy and Maximilian Beier, as well as behind Sébastien Haller and even nominal winger Karim Adeyemi, and is allowed to leave the club until the end of the transfer period on August 30.
In the absence of the still injured Guirassy, Şahin is putting Adeyemi in the starting eleven against Frankfurt. In defensive midfield, the coach is relying on new signing Pascal Groß and Emre Can. In the back four, there are also three nominal central defenders in the starting eleven: Nico Schlotterbeck, Waldemar Anton and Niklas Süle. Schlotterbeck will probably play the left-back position. In the new season, BVB wants to attack the top four places in the table again. Last season, the Black and Yellows only managed fifth place.
However, due to Germany’s good placement in the UEFA season rankings, this was enough to qualify directly for the Champions League.
