Buzet-sur-Tarn. Stray cat sterilization campaign

Managing stray cats is delicate and it is imperative to manage their populations and control their proliferation. This is why, in 2024, a capture campaign has been scheduled by municipal decree in the town center. During this operation, eleven unidentifiable cats or cats were captured, castrated or sterilized and released at the place of capture. After deliberation by the municipal council on October 16, Gilles Joviado signed a new agreement with the SEA association (Sauvetage Hope Animal) and the Occi’vet veterinary clinic in Bessières for the establishment, at the start of 2025, of an action to regulate the feline population without owner or keeper, living in groups in public places in the municipality in accordance with the provisions of Article L211-27 of the rural and maritime fishing code. Ahead of this campaign, information will be distributed to owners of domestic cats. Unidentified cats which will be captured, and after veterinary actions (sterilization and identification) carried out by Occi’vet, will be released at the place of their capture by the association. They will have acquired the status of “free cat”. In addition, the SEA association will be equipped with ten test kits for screening for feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) and feline leukosis virus (FeLV).
