Frankfurt Even celebrity doesn’t help anymore. Norbert Walter-Borjans searched for an apartment in Cologne for several months without success. Because he left his previous home to his eldest son and his wife, the former SPD national chairman learned first-hand how competitive the German housing market has become. “Most of the time, 50 or more interested parties were ahead of us in the race,” he said in a recent interview. “Now we finally got lucky.”
The search of the SPD politician shows vividly what is currently going on in the German real estate market. Prices have been going up for years. Is buying real estate still worth it?
One of the most renowned studies on this is the Postbank’s annual housing atlas, which the Hamburg World Economic Institute (HWWI) compiles for the people of Bonn.
