Jakarta –
A South Korean man found 130,000 Singapore dollars (Rp 1.37 billion) in cash hidden under an old fridge he bought online.
According to MBC News quoted detik.com from the Singaporean media, Mothership, Friday (13/8/2021) there were a total of 2,200 bills worth 110 million won (130,000 Singapore dollars).
The man found the money while cleaning a newly purchased refrigerator and instead of keeping it, he went to the police station to file a report on August 6.
Police have opened an investigation to determine the source of the money and are temporarily withholding the cash. Both the seller and the one transporting the refrigerator will be included in the investigation.
A police officer, speaking to MBC News, called the case absurd because it involved large sums of money.
South Korean news site Allkpop wrote that the country’s Lost and Found Act requires the money to be given to the person who finds it if the owner doesn’t show up within six months. However, the acquiree must pay a 22% tax on its findings.
If the owner of the money is found, the inventor will be compensated between five and twenty percent. In the event that the money is found to be related to a crime, it will go to the state.
