“We have to help people to buy their first home,” he says. He calls the measure that Flanders has now introduced to lower registration duties “good”. “But we have to move towards something structural to make house prices affordable again. Who can buy a second, third, fourth home, that is good for them. But must the government help there, at a time when so many people, singles and families , working for years, not getting by and not being able to buy a first home? Should the government subsidize second, third, fourth homes with everyone’s tax money? I don’t think that’s fair.”
