Finding a PlayStation 5 has been particularly difficult since its launch last year. The Sony console is without a doubt one of the most sought-after pieces of electronics at the moment, but new deliveries were regularly offered on the various Amazon sites. There’s some bad news, though, as the retailer started offering the console exclusively to Prime members for the first time this week.
Update 19/07 → BCC has another new PlayStation 5 draw organized. You have to be very quick this time, because registration is only open for a few hours. The PS5 has been virtually out of stock since its release and while the situation appears to be slowly improving, Sony expects the shortages to continue into 2022. This problem also creates a large group of scalpers who want to earn some extra pocket money by selling the consoles for a higher price on the second-hand market. To prevent this, some retailers have come up with alternative options, such as the BCC draw.
You can register here for the draw of the BCC. During this raffle you can register for one of the 2 versions of the PS5. Make your choice in the form for one of the options below: PlayStation 5 disk edition + 1 extra (black) controller + Ratchet & Clank + Spiderman (€694.96) or PlayStation 5 disk edition + 1 extra (black) controller + Ratchet & Clank + Demon’s Souls ($704.96). You can register from Monday 19 July to Tuesday 20 July 15:00. Maximum 1 registration per person, address and e-mail. BCC will announce within 5 working days whether you have been selected to buy the PS5.
This development was visible in Germany and England, but we wouldn’t be surprised if Amazon started doing this in other countries as well. The big problem is that Dutch consumers cannot take out a Prime subscription in Germany without a detour, so that a large and popular party seems to be disappearing. We don’t have to count on Amazon Netherlands, because the last drop took place there in March with an extremely small stock.
Sony expects the PS5’s stock problems to continue into next year, but the good news is that prices on sites like Marktplaats and eBay are falling, which will also reduce scalpers’ interest in the console. Given the global semiconductor shortage that is disrupting the production of consoles, video cards, electric cars and much more, we expect the Nintendo Switch pre-orders with OLED screen will present similar problems when the system launches in October.
There is a good chance that a new delivery will arrive in the Netherlands in the short term. It’s been a little over a month since the PS5 was last offered and that’s usually when something is about to happen. Keep an eye on the shops below.
