The 3,000 hectares of this regional nature reserve in Burgundy have just received an international label that welcomes the extraordinary conservation of wildlife and natural environments.
Carried by the cry of the autumn wind, the silhouette of a bird of prey breaks the monotony of the sky. The bird overlooks with its outstretched wings the Upper Suzon Valley, named after the crystalline river that crosses it, about ten kilometers north of Dijon. “Perhaps the peregrine falcon,” tent Marlène Tréca, the curator of the site which is designated as a regional nature reserve (RNR), used to see it using a telescope. Located in the limestone cliffs of the forest massif, the peregrine falcon is protected by order, “so as not to disturb it during nesting”. Three little ones fledged this year. In a world where biodiversity collapse is evidentthe natural environments of Val-Suzon and the living creatures that gather them, stand up to a poem.
The mighty bird is one of the 2,800 animal and plant species recorded in the region. “You have everything: butterflies, insects, moss, snails, bats,” announced the curator, running her finger across his management planessential road map for all reserves
