Delicious and easy to spread. This is said to be a two-hundred-gram lump, which people throughout the country know under the name ‘Rodinné 82 percent’. The product clearly resembles a cube of butter. Of course, that’s not the point.

This is a so-called mixed fat.

The PrahaIN.cz server was alerted to it by several female readers, mostly home bakers. The mentioned product is said to replace standard butter without any problems. According to them, the taste is unrecognizable. There are also a number of comments on social networks recommending the said lump. The editors therefore turned to the seller. It is Bohušovická dairy from Bohušovice nad Ohří.

“‘Rodinné 82%’ is normally sold at our corporate store in the Bohušovice dairy, and our sister company Accom Czech, which is the exclusive supplier of this mixed fat, distributes it throughout the country. In short, it is a so-called substitute for classic butter,” store manager Jiří Kollár told the editors.

According to him, the product can normally be used in the kitchen for baking and cooking. “And for undemanding consumers, also for pastries,” mentioned Kollár. “For example, if you’re roasting chicken, you won’t be able to tell it apart from ordinary butter after it’s baked. Customers liked it for its relatively low price and quality among blended fats,” he said.

The current price is 19.90 crowns.

Customers learn to tell the difference

PrahaIN.cz noticed that Tesco also offers the same product. It is about ‘Delicious 82 percent’, but it costs 29.90. It is supplied to the Czech market by the Polish manufacturer LUMIKO and Tesco has included it in the margarine section.

Back to ‘Family 82 percent’.

“We manage sales at our company store with events. We currently have it in the store for 19.90 and it is due to the period of preparation for baking Christmas cookies. Our customers very often mistake it for real butter,” concluded Jiří Kollár.

In terms of composition, mixed fat contains, for example, partially solidified palm fat, milk fat or table salt.

We also asked the Ministry of Agriculture about the exact labeling of products to avoid confusion when buying. That bequeathed us to the specialized Food Safety pagewhich are dedicated to the labeling of fats separately.
