Artist Butet Kartaredjasa was reported to the National Police Criminal Investigation Unit following his confession of being intimidated by the police during a theater performance entitled Bebuyutan Enemies at Taman Ismail Marzuki several days ago.
This was reported by the Lingkar Nusantara Advocate Community (Lisan), Friday (8/12). Deputy Chairperson of Lisan, Ahmad Fatoni, said that the complaint was made because Butet was considered to be spreading hoaxes.
The reason, he said, was that the act of intimidation mentioned by Butet had been denied by the executive committee and the police.
“Mr Butet’s statement has been clarified by the organizing committee, which in this case directly handles permits,” said Ahmad Fatoni at Bareskrim Polri.
“The committee said there had never been any intimidation from the police,” he emphasized.
Fatoni assessed that Butet’s statement, which eventually went viral, had also misled the public. Remembering that the theater performance continued to run smoothly without any problems caused by police guarding.
“In our opinion, what Mr. Butet said was misleading. So we suspect that this falls under the alleged criminal act of fake news or hoaxes,” he explained.
Furthermore, he believes that the security carried out by the police is also the usual security standard. Therefore, he considered that the intimidation statements made by Butet were too dramatized.
“We have to test first, what is meant by intimidation according to him. From what we understand, intimidation is a form of threat and so on,” he said.
On the other hand, Fatoni claimed that the complaint was also made by his party without any political interest. He admitted that he deliberately made a complaint so that something similar would not happen again.
“So we saw that we had to report this matter, so that it would be a lesson for anyone in expressing their opinion. So that’s all, there’s no political content or anything else,” he concluded.
Previously, artist Butet Kartaredjasa admitted that the police had prohibited him from including political elements in his theater performance entitled Enemy Bebuyutan.
The 41st annual stage was held at Forum Budaya Indonesia Kita in the cultural area under the auspices of the DKI Jakarta Culture Department.
Butet’s theme in the performance was the political battle that took place between two parties who were previously friendly.
Butet admitted that he was ordered to sign a statement that he would not discuss political elements on the stage.
“So that was a previous administrative requirement that never existed since the 1998 reformation. That was the time of the New Order,” said Butet to CNNIndonesia.comTuesday (5/12).
“So my staff took care of the permit as usual, this time it was attached and I had to sign it,” he continued.
