Chris Larsen, one of the co-founders of Ripple (XRP), recently mentioned some interesting things in a podcast. Among other things, he spoke about bitcoin (BTC) on ethereum (ETH)
Bitcoin (BTC)
In the podcast Larsen is not exactly happy with the largest cryptocurrency. He indicates that he believes bitcoin is one of the “dirtiest cryptocurrencies.” He is of course referring to the enormous energy consumption of the Bitcoin network.
He is also making an appeal to the bitcoin community. According to him, this community should realize major changes for the network as soon as possible. According to Larsen, one of those changes would be the switch from proof-of-work nasty proof-of-stake must be.
According to Larsen, proof-of-work networks are not sustainable in the long term and a switch to proof-of-stake is the best way to put an end to the enormous energy consumption.
However, he also indicates that he believes that this change will not be brought about overnight. Larsen states that a small group of developers, miners and crypto exchange administrators will not voluntarily deploy such a change.
That is why Larsen hopes that government agencies will get involved. If governments of countries make it unattractive for companies to do business with bitcoin, then sooner or later the choice for the switch to a proof-of-stake system will be practically enforced.
Ripple CEO says there is no such thing as ‘sustainable’ minen‘. In any case, according to Larsen, the energy generated in sustainable ways can be better used for other purposes.
Ethereum (ETH)
Larsen does have positive things to say about Ethereum. He even calls ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin a hero.
He would be a hero in Larsen’s eyes because the Ethereum network has made the choice to omit proof-of-work. The second-largest cryptocurrency will switch to a proof-of-stake system next year.
Larsen even calls Vitalik Buterin the “smartest person in the cryptocurrency industry”.
It is clear what Larsen thinks of bitcoin. These statements are also not the first of its kind. A while ago Larsen also attacked bitcoin and the energy consumption of the network.
