During the rampage of coronavirus and SARS, many people forget about other diseases that threaten the health of Russians to no lesser extent. One of these is measles. Cardiologist Alexander Myasnikov explained why this disease is considered extremely dangerous and what consequences it can lead to.
The specialist noted that it is possible to catch measles even without direct contact with the patient. It is enough to visit the place where the carrier was located. The virus persists in the air and on surfaces for up to two hours.
In addition, in about a third of people, the disease causes serious complications – from pneumonia to panencephalitis. The latter can manifest itself only after eight years and even lead to death.
In a programme “About the most important” on the Russia 1 TV channel, the doctor noted that only vaccination can be effective protection against the virus. Unvaccinated citizens have a very high chance of getting infected:
I advise you to check and take a blood test for antibodies to measles. If they are not there, get vaccinated, and two – with an interval of a month.
