But really now: The Elztalbahn is electrified – and runs again – Waldkirch

The Elztalbahn is running again – after a construction period of 20 months. The district administrator sees the 85 million euro project as a strengthening for the Emmendingen district. A chronology.

For District Administrator Hanno Hurth, it is “a special day for the Freiburg Regional Transport Association (ZRF) and a big event for the Elz Valley”. The last, outstanding measure of the 2020 Breisgau S-Bahn concept has been completed. After a long planning and negotiation process lasting more than ten years, the modernization of the Elztalbahn has been completed. From tomorrow, Sunday, November 14th, trains will run again – the local line S2 – between Freiburg and Elzach.
It is easier to commute again

“This is a reason to celebrate for the whole of the Elz Valley and Simonswald,” says Hurth. Because with the completion of the major project, the infrastructure will improve considerably. Public transport is being promoted overall. The municipalities are becoming more attractive for new settlements, commuters can get to their place of work faster, and the way to the upper Elz Valley is made easier for sought-after specialists. The increased switch from cars to emission-free train traffic should also be encouraged.
