The late Haim Levin was one of the most famous goalkeepers in Israeli football in the 60s and 70s, he was among the five greatest goalkeepers in the history of the State of Israel, this morning (Sunday, April 21, 2024) Levin passed away at the age of 87. Many goalkeepers Trained and raised them under his hand, they became soldiers in many soccer teams, among the goalkeepers coached by the late Avi Ran, Nir Davidovitz, Sagi Strauss, Eric Shmueli, Dodo Avatt and other goalkeepers and won the team’s first championships with Maccabi. Raised generations of goalkeepers at Maccabi Haifa and oversaw what was dubbed the “Factory for goalkeepers”.
The late Levin played mainly as a goalkeeper for the Maccabi Tel Aviv team and with it he won the championship in 1968 and also in three state cups in 1964, 1965 and 1967. The late Levin was selected as the footballer of the season in the 1964/65 game season.
In the meantime, it should be noted that the late Chaim Levin had 22 appearances for the Israel national team. In 1957, he moved to play in the green uniform of the Maccabi Haifa team where he played for 3 years, until after that he again moved to play for Maccabi Tel Aviv for nearly 10 years. He also played for home teams R Jerusalem, Hapoel Jerusalem and also in Maccabi Netanya. In 2009 he entered the Israeli Football Hall of Fame. Upon his retirement from the soccer game, Levin became one of the best goalkeeper coaches in Israel, a goalkeeper coach and for many years he was the goalkeeper coach of Maccabi Haifa where he trained the goalkeepers.
The chairman of the football association, Shino Zoertz: “We are saying goodbye to a legendary goalkeeper and a wonderful person, who was an inspiration to many generations. Beyond his great success in the uniform of Maccabi Tel Aviv and his contribution to other clubs, Levin was a central part of the team that represented Israel in an honorable way at the 1968 Mexico Olympics, the first ever for which our soccer team qualified. May his memory be blessed.”
The late Haim Levin left behind four daughters, grandsons and great-grandsons, his funeral will take place today (Sunday, April 21, 2024) at 5:00 PM in Moshav Nes Harim near Jerusalem. The Levin family, may the memory of Haim Levin be blessed!
