The attempt to attack from Lebanon took place Monday. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that rocket warning sirens were activated at Misgav Am, in northern Israel, near the border with Lebanon.
Although the six rocket attacks failed, the IDF retaliated. “The artillery troops fired at the source of the (rocket) launch,” the IDF was quoted as saying Sputniknews, Tuesday (18/5/2021).
Videos showing IDF artillery response to rocket fire from Lebanese territory have been shared on social media.
No damage or casualties were recorded on Israeli territory following the activation of the rocket sirens.
Earlier in the day, multiple reports emerged saying that explosions and rocket sirens had been heard at the Israel-Lebanon border, with some reports suggesting that at least five rockets were fired from Lebanon towards Israel, but all landed in the Lebanese Territory.
No group has claimed responsibility for the rocket fire.
Following the incident, the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) tweeted that its Head of Mission remained in touch with the parties to ensure stability in the area and reduce existing tensions.
UNIFIL noted that the situation is now calm in the area.
“The rockets were launched from the Rashaya Al Foukhar general area north of Kfar Chouba in southern Lebanon,” said UNIFIL.
UNIFIL also said it would intensify patrols and increase security controls in the area.
