Busy shopping streets in the first weekend after easing, many Germans in border towns

Enschede has to deal with a lot of German visitors, city center manager Duco Hoek observes RTV East. The terraces are full and the market is very busy. According to Hoek, this was to be expected; it is the first weekend day that people can shop without an appointment again, the terraces are open again and it is mostly dry. In addition, almost all shops in Germany, including supermarkets, are closed due to Labor Day.

Earlier this week, the municipality of Enschede called on Germans to stay away, but many people did not respond to this. Yet there is no intervention yet. Crush barriers have been installed in a number of places, so that shoppers can still wait somewhat corona-proof until they can enter the store.

Many Germans are also on the move in Venlo. There, the crowds are not yet causing any problems.
