Busy black streets in Chartres, this last weekend reduced to the 100 km zone

Crowded streets and deserted terraces. This is the image that will remain of this strange spring in France. In Chartres, on this Saturday of Pentecost weekend, with 25 degrees in the shade, the glaciers did not stop the afternoon. And the ice creams can be enjoyed standing up, or sitting on one of the crowded benches.

The terraces remain empty.

On the cathedral square, a summer air floats. The tourist train has returned to service. And tourists – and neighbors – flock, while this last weekend in May is also the last weekend of limitation to 100 km around his home.

This is our first bike ride since confinement. We are less than 100 km from home and we enjoy the good weather.

Claire, Rémi and their daughters Félicie and Agathe got on the bike from Rambouillet this Saturday morning and arrived in the forecourt of Chartres cathedral in the middle of the afternoon. “We borrowed the Véloscénie (bike route from Paris to Mont-Saint-Michel, note). VS’is our first bike ride since confinement. We are less than 100 km from home and we are enjoying the good weather, ”confides the family, who will camp this Saturday evening in Eure-et-Loir before joining the Yvelines tomorrow.

Chartres terraces will gain ground

Claire, Rémi and their daughters Félicie and Agathe came from Rambouillet.

A little further, a queue formed in front of the cathedral. The entries are made drop by drop. Jade and Iskander came from Paris to spend their first unconfined weekend, still less than 100 km away. “We change the air, we breathe a little,” rejoices the couple who rented a room for the weekend. “We did not know Chartres, we had gone to Le Mans and Orleans but never to Chartres, this is an opportunity”, explain the Parisians before rushing into the cathedral.
