Businessman and motorist Baldiņš continues the challenging “Nitro” rallycross in Florida / Article

Outside of motor sports, Baldiņš runs a company in Valmiera with a team of almost 60 people engaged in road construction, dolomite mining and other work. Ronald has a good rhythm of entrepreneurial life – he gets up at half past four in the morning, but in the evening he often leaves last.

Motorsports are a great way to disconnect from work. Ronald learned to ride a moped at the age of four, later spent a lot of time in motocross and also got into motorsport.

Starting with the buggy, Baldiņš initially had a plan to try his hand at it in North America as well, but the organizers of the “Nitro” rallycross removed the buggies from the competition program. But the offer to start in the “Supercar” class was made for Ronald by the team “Olsbergs” led by Andreas Erikson.

The series “Nitro” differs from the well-known world rallycross championship in Latvia with several important things. For example, qualifying races are followed by one-on-one races, which determine the layout of the second day’s races. The first thing that catches your eye in the race is the impressive jumps. At first, they also caused Ronald fear. It is interesting that on the tracks, where there are the largest springboards, the cars are equipped with a special button so that they can jump safely.

The organizers of the “Nitro” competition have made the springboards safer, but the question remains whether by European standards. Next year, the organizers of the series plan to spend four stages in Europe, although we have doubts or we will see such impressive jumps, but it will be interesting to watch the development of this championship.

The leaders of the overall standings in the Nitro series are the pilots of the Subaru team, and one of them is the founder of the race, Travis Pastrana. In addition, all entrants are aware that in the first full season of the series, leaders will use prohibited technologies in the competition, such as traction control and GPS. However, the leaders have already been strongly warned, and Baldiņš expects that in the future all participants will have to play by the same rules.

Nitro rallycross tracks are much wider than in Europe, providing better overtaking opportunities and making the race more attractive to spectators. The tracks are mostly with mixed pavement, as well as curves of different slopes in curves. There is a great similarity with motocross tracks adapted to the needs of rallycross. Each track is unique because it is prepared for the respective stage.

In November, Baldiņš spent two stages in the United States in Phoenix and Southern California. If the Latvian still got acquainted with the order of things and the “Olsbergs MSE” car in Phoenix, then in the next race he was able to enter the final and won the 7th place.
