Business visas for Italy: “partial” resumption of processing of applications

The Italian Embassy in Algeria has announced the “partial” resumption, since yesterday, of the processing of Schengen business visa applications for Italy, after a year of suspension due to the health crisis.

“In consideration of the latest developments and future medium and long term prospects, the Italian Embassy in Algeria announces that from June 1, 2021 it will partially resume processing of Schengen business visa applications for Italy », Said the Italian embassy in Algeria in a press release received by our editorial staff. “This initiative aims in particular to support, initially, the Algerian and Italian business communities and the economic recovery”, added the same source.

On instruction from the Italian Embassy in Algiers, its partner VFS Global “will contact, as a priority in this first phase, all holders of a Schengen business visa for movement (validity of one year or more) who was issued by the Italian Embassy in Algeria and which expired during the pandemic, to offer them an appointment with one of its currently open visa centers (Algiers, Oran, Constantine) ”, reads -on in the press release.

She noted that “interested parties will be required to present all the necessary documentation for a business visa, the list of which will be provided by VFS Global, including the letter of invitation from an Italian company for business trips in Italy”.

The Italian Embassy in Algeria recalled that, as part of the measures to contain the spread of Covid-19, “the various Schengen States, including Italy, have introduced travel restrictions and that a restriction temporary non-essential travel to the European Union is still in effect ”. “Holders of a new Schengen visa, or of a still valid Schengen visa, therefore, are not automatically authorized to enter Italian and Schengen territory and must comply with the travel restrictions in force at Schengen level and at the level of the country of first entry into the Schengen area ”, specified the diplomatic representation of Italy. “It is indeed up to each traveler to check the travel restrictions in place before departure.

In these circumstances, the interested parties could therefore be obliged to postpone their trip to Italy, while benefiting, however, in the medium and long term from the renewal of their travel visa thanks to this initiative of the Italian Embassy ”, she concluded.

As a reminder, many countries, including France, have suspended the granting of visas to Algerians since the start of the health crisis, and a number of Algerian consulates abroad have also interrupted the processing of visa files. This situation frustrates Algerians wishing to travel, especially since the announcement of the partial reopening of borders.
