Business union presents the bases of a new economic development model for Venezuela

In order to present the conclusions of the document Venezuela on the way to the future Venezuela 2035: Basis for the discussion in collective construction of a new development model, Carlos Fernández, president of Fedecámaras visited Valera.

In an interview for Diario de Los Andes, he stated that said document was presented and approved by the business leadership in July of last year, and now they are visiting the regions to present and consult it.

Fernández explained that as its name indicates, it is a collective construction, which is why they are visiting the entire country to discuss it and listen to everyone’s opinion, because “any change from a rent-seeking development model to a productive development model needs be agreed, it should be accompanied by the whole society, so that it can be successful and can be implemented in the future, that is our pilgrimage and that is why we are here. We are grateful because this is the second opportunity we have in Trujillo to present these general guidelines, which means this plan for a new development model”.

-What are the challenges that the private sector has to resume the economic improvement that we had been seeing a few months ago?

Everything, firstly, the stabilization of the currency, which seems to be being achieved in some way, and secondly, to improve the income levels of Venezuelan citizens so that there is a boost to consumption that we are sure will be accompanied by the necessary supply from the private sector.

The private sector has been accompanying each of the spaces for flexibility and opportunity that have been given by economic policy

-Have we seen you visit the provinces of Venezuela? Does this mean something in particular in terms of the productive effort that these geographical areas have to improve the economy of Venezuela?

-Yes, we have tried in this study to know what are the problems and what are the potentialities of each one of the regions of the country?, but also to understand the natural vocations of each one of the regions towards a certain scheme and productive facts, and therefore Of course, trying to convey to the country the message that Venezuela is not Caracas, that there is enormous inequality both economically, but also enormous geographical inequality. What is seen in Caracas and the center of the country is not the same as what is seen in the regions.

Faced with this situation, the president of Fedecámaras expressed his word of impulse that, given the decrease in public spending and the income capacity of public programs, to address the economic issue depends on the will, effort, and ingenuity of each one of the private operators to try to carry out our activity, and in that, of course, the regions of the country have as leading a role as the capital can.

-Are there people who say that without political change there is no economic change, what do you think about it?

-I think they are things that go hand in hand, there is no political change if there is no economic change and there is no economic change without political change, to the extent that economic conditions improve, to the same extent we will see that people will be much more willing to participate. When people are in a precarious economic situation, it is difficult for them to have time for other things, it is with the economic improvement, with the economic stability that gives them more time to deal with public affairs and that is the political participation of citizens, it is very important Because one thing goes hand in hand with the other and one drives the other. I think that they complement each other in that.
