Business resumes with Russia for pork

The Upisa meat plant, the only one that exports pork meat, resumed talks with Russian importers after two years of suspension in that market. The industry warns that the recovery of the volumes traded until 2019 will not occur immediately.

Almost 100% of the meat and pork giblets were destined for Russia, until the country imposed a suspension due to discoveries of drug residues in the meat, although for the meat processing company there are still doubts about it, because it never received the details of the charge to carry out the corresponding investigation.

However, for two weeks Upisa is once again enabled for that destination.

“We are beginning to negotiate little by little, Upisa was without authorization, from now on we will begin to export, slowly, because the process is not very fast being out of market for a long time,” explained Jair Lima, manager of the Concepción Group, which recently acquired 24% of the shares of Upisa.

The numbers

3.908
tons of meat and pork giblets were exported until September of this year to 8 different destinations.
