Business in Belarus: Public prosecutor investigates AfD onion baron | Regional

The allegations against the Saxon AfD member of the state parliament Jörg Dornau (54) are becoming more and more serious. After the opposition Belarusian online portal reform.news reported two weeks ago that political prisoners of the Lukashenko regime were also said to be working on Dornau’s onion farm, the public prosecutor is now investigating.

“First of all, there were normal prisoners who were imprisoned for drinking alcohol, for example,” said the MDR informant. Later, only political prisoners worked for Dornau’s “Zybulka-Bel” farm. They are “more civilized”.

According to BILD information, several criminal complaints have now been received by the responsible Leipzig public prosecutor’s office. They have now started preliminary investigations.

Dornau’s business conduct was “clearly a case of exploitation of people in a predicament” (Section 233 of the Criminal Code), explained, among others, the Leipzig lawyer and Green Party politician Ferdinand Müller.

Dornau himself has so far remained silent about the allegations and has not responded to multiple inquiries – including from his own party.

There was a conversation on October 1st, among other things. with Saxony’s AfD General Secretary Jan Zwerg (59). Dornau “didn’t really explain himself” and was “very stubborn and secretive,” as the group said.

Several members of the parliamentary group now view his behavior as “damaging to the party”. “It is common practice in the parliamentary group for MPs to report trips abroad, at least to the parliamentary group. But Mr. Dornau just does his thing and doesn’t care about anything,” complains one MP.

Federal AfD distances itself

The federal leadership of the AfD around Alice Weidel and Tino Chrupalla has been watching the goings-on in Dornau with unease for a long time, but has so far wanted to leave things to the Saxon regional association. But now the thread of patience seems to have broken. “The damage to our image caused here is enormous,” said a federal executive.

Now the party leadership is officially distancing itself, saying when asked: “If the allegations made against the Saxon state parliament member Mr. Dornau regarding his Belarusian company turn out to be correct, the AfD distances itself very clearly from these business practices and will examine appropriate party regulatory measures. “
