Mexico City. Business confidence observed a recovery during October, the month in which the government of President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo began, the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) reported this Friday.
According to the data from the Business Confidence Indicators corresponding to the tenth month of 2024, the opinion of business executives from the manufacturing, construction, commerce and non-financial private services industries about the country’s economic environment improved, after a decline observed in last September.
With original figures, that is, without adjusting for seasonality, the business confidence indicator in the manufacturing sector stood at 52.3 points, a result that showed an advance of 0.2 points compared to the ninth month, while compared to October 2023 it fell 1.9 points.
The Inegi highlighted that this measurement was 41 months above the 50-point threshold. However, the moment to invest stood at 43.7 points, a level that totaled 135 consecutive months below 50 points. The future situation of the company, with 58.1 points, was 250 times above the threshold.
The confidence index in the construction sector, which impacts 3 out of every 4 economic branches, stood at 49.0 points, a figure that showed an advance of 1.1 points compared to September. In its annual variation, it fell 3.3 points.
The moment to invest stood at 29.2 points, so it added 161 points below the threshold and the company’s economic situation stood at 60.2 points, so with the October data it added 161 consecutive periods above 50 points.
Confidence in the commerce sector was 52.4 points in the tenth month, which translated into 43 months above the threshold. The data observed an advance of 0.9 points compared to September, but decreased 2.8 points compared to October of last year.
The future economic situation of the company in this tertiary activity was located at 62.4 points, adding 161 consecutive periods above the threshold. The country’s future economic situation was 57.2 points, so it was above 50 points for 93 weeks.
Confidence for non-financial services entrepreneurs stood at 52.3 points, marking 20 consecutive months above the threshold. The data showed a monthly advance of 1.2 points, but fell 4.6 points compared to October 2023.
The future economic situation of the company observed the best performance, standing at 62.4 points, so the level totaled 21 consecutive periods above 50 points.
