According to a recent survey, domestic companies continue to assess the current economic situation and the economic outlook negatively. However, they see a slight improvement compared to the previous month. The Wifo economic climate index was recorded in September at minus 5.9 points (seasonally adjusted), 1.7 points above the previous month’s value (minus 7.6 points). However, the industrial economy in particular remains weak.
The index of current assessments of the overall economy increased by 2.1 points in September, but remained in negative territory at minus 7.4 points. In the manufacturing sector the situation index was minus 22.0 points, in the construction industry it was minus 3.3 points, in the services sector it was minus 1.6 points and in the retail sector it was minus 0.6 points.
According to Wifo, economic expectations also improved slightly, but on balance still indicate a largely skeptical economic outlook for the coming months. The index of business expectations for the overall economy improved by 0.9 points to minus 5.0 points in September. The expectations index in retail was minus 16.7 points and in manufacturing it was minus 16.3 points. In the construction industry, economic expectations are still slightly negative (minus 2.2 points), while the service sector is somewhat more optimistic (plus 2.5 points).
