Moving with i public transport in the Salerno area, in many cases, is a real odyssey. Because public transport does not meet the needs of users and, above all, of commuters. But even from a tourist point of view, mobility has many shortcomings, regardless of whether you decide to travel by bus or train.
Timetables and user needs.
Because the timetables do not take passengers’ needs into account at all and seem to be thoughtlessly conceived. In fact, at certain times of the day and, especially at night, move from Salerno or reaching the provincial capital city by public transport is practically impossible. Travel, both by rail and by road, ends suddenly, so those who have to travel for work or leisure have no other alternatives and can therefore use their own vehicles or taxis. The situation is common throughout the Salerno area, from North to South.
The Costiera paradox
And not even the tourist vocation of some areas serves to ensure that more races are expected. This is the case of the Amalfi Coast, served only by Sita. In this case the last bus from Salerno to Amalfi leaves at 9.30pm, while from Amalfi towards Salerno at 10pm. We must not forget that the Divina is already invaded by holidaymakers who, therefore, cannot use the public service in the evening hours. But it is not only tourists who are penalized but also commuters, such as the employees of the many accommodation facilities scattered along the coast who, to return home, in certain time slots, have no alternative other than private transport.
Irno Valley
But the situation is common almost everywhere. And in this case the proverb “common evil is half joy” does not apply. Because the problem becomes, in some ways, unbearable even if a sort of resignation now seems to have descended on the people of Salerno in passively accepting all the decisions coming from above. Returning to the timetables of public transport, in the Irno Valley the last train from Salerno towards Pellezzano, Baronissi e San Severino market it leaves at 8.34pm, while the last buses leave at 8.45pm (line 10) and 8.55pm (line 22) with the terminus at the University. Conversely, from the towns of the Irno Valley towards Salerno the last train is at 9.24pm, while the last buses are at 8.15pm (line 10) and 8.05pm (line 22).
Picentini and Piana del Sele
The music doesn’t even change Pontecagnano, Bellizzi e Battipaglia. The last train from Salerno is scheduled at 10.03pm (other previous trains are at 8.01pm and 9.08pm), while the last buses are at 8.30pm (line 8). From Picentini and Piana del Sele to Salerno the last train is at 10.33pm (other previous trips are at 9.59pm and 8.42pm), the last bus is at 8.20pm (line 8).
Eboli isolated
Same cliché also ad Eboli, where the last train from Salerno is at 7.54pm, while the replacement bus is scheduled for 8.20pm. In this time slot, for road transport, there is no service either towards Salerno or Eboli, while as regards rail transport, from Eboli to Salerno there is a train at 10.24pm (two other previous services there they are at 8.29pm and 9.25pm.
Cava and Agro Nocerino Sarnese
We change the area but the music remains the same also with regards to mobility to and from the provincial capital city from Cava de’ Tirreni and the Agro Nocerino Sarnese. In this case, as regards rail transport, there is also the interruption of the historic railway lines for months now. So from Salerno towards Cava and Nocera there are replacement buses, the last one at 9.49pm (the times of the previous ones are at 9.19pm and 8.49pm), while towards Salerno the last one is at 11.41pm. As regards road transport, the last bus line (4) from Salerno is at 9.30pm and towards the provincial capital city at 10.30pm (line 4).
