KEDIRI, KOMPAS.com- The Harapan Jaya Bus driver described the seconds the bus he was driving collided with a Kijang Innova and fell into a rice field on Jalan Raya Semampir Village, Kediri City, East Java, Thursday (7/3/2024).
The bus driver named Puji said that initially the bus he was driving was carrying around eight people and was traveling from east to west.
“At most seven or eight people (passengers),” said Puji when met by Kompas.com at the scene of the incident, Thursday (7/3/2024).

Arriving at the scene of the incident, precisely near the Semampir bridge, a white Kijang Innova came from the front. The vehicle, said Puji, suddenly seemed to lose its lane and veered to the right.
“I was shocked then I bell-belled (horn) but he was still holding his breath,” said Puji.
Seeing that the Innova was still moving, Puji tried to brake. However, collisions cannot be avoided.
Puji spontaneously swerved to the right, causing the bus to run out of control, then plunged into a rice field.
“At that time I kept pressing the gas while controlling the steering wheel,” said Puji.

Puji admitted that he did not suffer fatal injuries. He felt pain in his leg and was taken to health services.
Likewise with the two bus crew, namely a conductor and a kenek. They suffered injuries.
12 people were injured
Head of the Kediri Resort Police (Polres) Traffic Unit, Adjunct Police Commissioner (AKP) Andhini Puspa Nugraha, said that as a result of the incident, 12 people were injured.
They consisted of seven bus passengers, three bus crew and two Innova passengers.
“There were no casualties,” said AKP Andhini Puspa Nugraha when met at the scene, Thursday.
All victims have been evacuated to hospital for further treatment.

Meanwhile, the vehicle involved in the accident is currently still in the process of being evacuated. Especially removing foam that is stuck in the rice fields.
“We have secured the Innova deer to Mako.” he concluded.
Previously it was reported that the accident involved Harapan Jaya and Kijang Innova buses in Semampir, Kediri City, Thursday (7/3/2024).
From officers’ initial examination, it is believed that the incident occurred because the driver of the Kijang Innova was sleepy, causing the vehicle to drive uncontrollably.
