Düsseldorf (dpa) – A burst heating pipe in a Düsseldorf hotel caused a major fire brigade operation on Saturday. According to a message, the emergency services were alerted by the hotel’s fire alarm system early in the morning after the pipe burst on the sixth floor and large amounts of hot water flowed out. According to the fire department, the water vapor had triggered the smoke detectors. The firefighters took 230 people to a large room in the hotel, where they were looked after by the rescue service.
According to the information, the water spread over several floors. According to the police, two people, including a hotel employee, came into contact with the hot water during the evacuation and were taken to a hospital in an ambulance for treatment. One floor of the hotel in the Golzheim district is uninhabitable for the time being due to the massive water damage. The affected residents were therefore taken to other accommodations. The operation was over after about four hours. The extent of the damage was initially unclear.
