Burnout Paradise Remastered – game review and review [NS]

The most-bought production on the Nintendo Switch is still Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and probably no races will endanger production with Marian in the lead role. Fast car fans have been waiting a long time to be able to grab the Nintendo console and set out on four wheels to a large, open world. Such an impression is to provide Burnout Paradise Remastered and being quite honest – I did not think that Stellar Entertainment will take care of such a decent port.

What really is Burnout Paradise Remastered?

Criterion Games offered Burnout Paradise players in 2008. After a decade, the game with the subtitle “Remastered” hit the current generation consoles and personal computers, and recently landed on the Nintendo Switch. Electronic Arts has decided to refresh the races, which, apart from quite affordable stands, also offer all major extensions. Cops and Bandits, Cult Cars, Burnout Motorcycles, or the Great Big Surf Island – EA offers a total of eight of the nine add-on packages that have been prepared for racing.

Nintendo Switch did not hit only Time Savers, but this is not a big loss, since the developers in 2009 offered players the opportunity to quickly unlock all content. Now we can not afford such attractions, but rather no one should complain – you just have to grab the console and play. The set includes almost 100 cars with various legends, go-karts, motorbikes or the ECTO-1 from Ghostbusters. In addition, we can also check out the island (Big Sufr Island) liked by many players, where we participate in subsequent races.

Criterion Games in 2008 went magic, which I have already experienced on PlayStation 4 (playing the remaster for the first time) and now again on Nintendo Switch. Production encourages gameplay: new missions appear at every turn, challenges have a solid level of difficulty, and after each winning the race feels pleasant satisfaction. For our efforts we are rewarded with acquiring new licenses, which allows you to win more vehicles, so the self-propelled machine works and is doing really well.

Burnout Paradise Remastered is known and the best attractions

In Burnout Paradise Remastered you can not complain about the content in any case, because in order to squeeze out all the oil from cars, we need to spend up to 35 hours to play. Offering all extensions brings some freedom, as standard Burnout Paradise offers quite arduous unlocking of subsequent machines, but having all (important) DLC packages in hand, we can quickly jump into pimped carts and easily crush opponents on subsequent turns. Of course, this is not the only option, but players who have spent many sleepless nights in Paradise City and will want to jump into the game and enjoy freedom will definitely pay attention to it.

However, if you’ve never had the opportunity to play Burnout Paradise, it’s definitely worth explaining one thing: the game offers fantastic freedom of fun. Here we fall into Paradise City and we can simply drive around a large, open area, and while traveling we unlock subsequent events (circles appear on the map), of which there are several types. When we want to participate in it – we drive up, click two buttons and after a while we start the challenge. Standard race, fight for qualifying, driving through selected points, playing tricks with collecting points or trying to escape from aggressors? This is only part of the attractions offered by developers. In the game you will also find a number of challenges scattered around the world of the game – my favorite is destroying ads that we must get to by finding special jumps. It is pure pleasure to be able to explore the land in such a way with cars and crashes.

However, I am aware that modern players may shake their nose at the original assumptions created by Criterion Games. The creators do not really throw a specific carrot at us and do not encourage the next races with any story inserts or do not even outline any story. Here you have a car and you drive. I must admit – I played PlayStation 3, played PlayStation 4, and now I gladly destroy carts on Nintendo Switch, but after this position you can’t expect even a small story.

Burnout Paradise Remastered – how does it look and work on Nintendo Switch?

I admit: I was one of the unbelievers. I did not believe that Burnout Paradise Remastered on Nintendo equipment can operate at a constant 60 frames per second, but in this case I was very positively surprised. The title is extremely dynamic and offers a very exciting experience, because even when participating in races with several opponents – you can not feel the declines. The game uses the improvements already known from PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and yet it managed to achieve great gameplay that tastes best on the small console screen.

Taking the console in your hand, jumping into a more powerful car you can feel fantastic speed. During the game there is no obvious decrease, but I warn you: developers are playing smoothly with the resolution (1280×720). This means that when breaking through the city in the fastest cars, there may be a problem with the screen blur. Gameplay in Burnout Paradise Remastered is extremely dynamic, and the whole production looks really good, but it took me some time before I got used to this effect – otherwise you can collide with all the impetus with the wall. The creators also limit the quality of the textures themselves, but this is standard when transferring large games to the Nintendo console.

The situation is similar in the case of gameplay on a large TV, but in this case the developers took care of the native resolution of 1600×900. However, I must emphasize that for me the most sensible solution in the case of the reviewed Burnout Paradise Remastered version for Nintendo Switch is to play the game in a portable version. The title on the small screen Big N looks really good and although you can easily see that it is only “refresh”, it however, the production offers 60 fps and an eye-catching setting.

Burnout Paradise Remastered is a wild car crash

Burnout Paradise Remastered - game review and review [NS] 44

Over the course of the year, I reach for Burnout Paradise Remastered again, again without disappointment. Taking the production for review, I wanted to find out if racing in the open world could do well on the Nintendo console and I was very positively surprised. The gameplay is surprisingly pleasant and ideally suited to the console assumptions – I’m not a special enthusiast of such ports on a large TV (it makes sense to turn on the PS4 / XOne version), but in the case of a portable release? There is power.

As I mentioned, Burnout Paradise Remastered does not engage us with hours of history, but this has one more plus: you can turn on the game at any time (without paying attention to events) and play a few races 10 minutes before bedtime. The creators have not forgotten about the network mode, in which we go with people around the city or together we will take part in several events. Here, regardless of selected attractions – the dynamics of arrivals is impressive. Players can also check out the Burnout Paradise Party, which is a party mode in which we can take part in various challenges, while passing the controller over while playing.

Is it worth reaching for Burnout Paradise Remastered?

Burnout Paradise Remastered - game review and review [NS] 5

The reviewed Burnout Paradise Remastered on Nintendo Switch is a big and very positive surprise for me. I was one of the unbelievers, and in recent days, at every possible moment, I was grabbing the console to rock around Paradise City. The soundtrack does not disappoint again, the gameplay is surprisingly smooth, and the setting … It’s ok. Of course, these are not next-gen impressions, but given the circumstances: you will be satisfied.

However, there is a small problem here: is it really worth taking Burnout Paradise Remastered now? EA is well aware of the mediocre competition (AAA races in the open world on Switch), so the title went to the eShop for 199 PLN. This is a lot, but now you can catch a box for 159-170 PLN … It’s still about 40-50 PLN too much for a refreshed adventure that debuted on other platforms two years ago.

However, if you are hungry for experience: take it, because Burnout Paradise Remastered again does not disappoint.
